Ozzie, my four-month old Rottweiler peered up at me with his big brown eyes, as I temporarily left him for a very important surgical procedure. As much as it broke my heart to drop off my “baby” at the local humane society, I know it was the responsible thing to do. What Ozzie doesn’t know is that today is the first day of the rest of his life. He is being neutered.

In most cases, the ferret you’ll buy from a breeder or pet shop will be already neutered (in the case of males) or spayed (in the case of females). However, there are cases when you’ll discover that your new ferret hasn’t been neutered or spayed yet. This usually happens when you get a young ferret from a friend, relative or even from some less experienced breeders.

To many dog owners the subject of dog neutering is one that is often put on the back burner. The reason why is that there almost as many different opinions on neutering a dog as there are spots on a Dalmatian. Frequently, the outcome of this hesitation is that the optimum time for neutering your pet is in the past.
