Parrots are naturally sociable birds, they love to interact and play and it’s these traits that make them perfect pets. Many people buy a parrot as a pet and don’t have any clue about how they should look after them. They buy a cage that they guess would be adequate enough and give it tidbits of left over dinner as a treat unknowingly doing the bird some harm.

They are sold under the name of Red Parrot or Bloody Parrots, but these fish must not be confounded with parrot Cichlids (Hoplarchus Psittacus) or with marine Parrot fish (Callyodon fasciatus). The real Parrot, Hoplarchus psittacus is an American Cichlid which lives in the Amazon waters and has a green color.

Who Knew “Birdbrain” Could Be a Compliment?

I grew up with dogs and cats and never even considered a bird as a pet. Birds were simple-minded creatures that you put in a cage, supplied them with birdseed and water and cleaned the cage every so often. I went on for years with that picture firmly in mind – and then one day both of my daughters decided to buy a parrot.
